Places of Interest in Mazatlan
1. The Three Islands.
Mazatlan’s Three Islands are the port’s most important eco reserves, since they’re home to a huge variety of wild flora and fauna. The Pajaros Island, Venados Island and los Lobos Island offer the perfect opportunity to dive, snorkel and even see cave paintings as they were recently discovered in Venados Island.
2. Plazuela Machado.
The Plazuela Machado in Mazatlan is a hard to miss place during your vacations in the Pearl of the Pacific. It was built in 1837 and nowadays is a meeting point of locals and tourists who enjoy a good cup of coffee or a tasty meal in one of the many restaurants located in this area. Next to the Plaza Machado is the famous Angela Peralta Theater and during the days of the carnival is where the gastronomic fest is held at.
3. Mazatlan Aquarium.
The Mazatlan Aquarium is one of the city’s most important attractions. It opened doors in September 13, 1980 in order to promote the protection and conservation of nature. Here you can swim with sharks and sea lions, enjoy the birds exhibition and feel amazed with the spectacular oceanic fish tank. The entrance fee is $115.00 per adult and $85.00 per child, but we recommend you to check with the aquarium first since the prices are subject to changes.
4. El Faro (Lighthouse).
The lighthouse of Mazatlan is the world’s tallest natural lighthouse as it reaches 152 meters height. It’s located at the top of the Creston Hill, in the end of the Paseo del Centenario and you can get there via bus, taxi, Uber or pulmonia. It is advisable to arrive here early to avoid the sun, as the walk takes about 30 minutes and there’s more than 300 stairs up to the top. From the lighthouse of Mazatlan you can admire beaches like Olas Altas and Norte Beach as well as the Three Islands, becoming a unique activity to enjoy the spectacular panoramas of Mazatlan.
5. Boardwalk of Mazatlan (Malecon).
Nothing more representative of Mazatlan than its boardwalk; to be there is to take a part of the magic of the port with you. It’s one of the world’s largest since it reaches 21 km long and comprises 9 sections, from the downtown area to the north zone. While you walk throughout the boardwalk of Mazatlan you’ll see beaches and natural landscapes of unmatched beauty, but you’ll also have at your reach all the fun and activities you’re looking for to never get bored.
